Ebook About Casey Preston is the guy with the plan. The list-maker. The one who micromanages his own life.Spontaneously offering to be his best friend’s fake boyfriend to get Ethan’s annoying team captain off his back? That’s not thinking things through. It’s not even smart given Casey’s been fighting his feelings for Ethan for years.Ethan Rain just wants to play hockey and get his college degree. Adding a fake boyfriend to the mix? He doesn’t need that complication. If Casey were his real boyfriend, though? If he got to keep Casey forever? Now we’re talking. But what if Casey doesn’t want to be kept?Book Keeping Casey (Keeping Him Book 1) Review :
That's how I mainly feel after finally finishing this story and I am Bummed (with a capital B).I absolutely love hockey sports romances, and I was ridiculously excited when I found out one of the main characters has rheumatoid arthritis and is demisexual (yay for good representation!), but ultimately I was frustrated by the storyline, including an entire third of the book that was completely and utterly unnecessary, and the fruitless miscommunication that drives much of the plot forward.Almost all of the conflicts in this book could have literally been solved with a single conversation and that drives me up a wall. It's simply a personal preference to avoid stories that feature that kind of writing.I have enjoyed Amy Aislin's books in the past, but I think it best for me to avoid her new adult stories, although, to be fair, I might just avoid new adult romances altogether from here out because I do not have the chill for it. I lose my damn mind at the absolute childishness and I don't want to be upset when reading a romance.Dual POV, hockey sports, fake boyfriends, romance, best friends to lovers, low steam, demisexual representation, chronic illness representation, and a happy ending. Casey and Ethan have been best friends since forever. They’re a package deal with a long, shared history; even a couple years apart while Ethan pursued his hockey dreams hasn’t made a dent in their unflappable connection. But all of that is about to change during their freshman year of college. When Ethan’s team captain reacts poorly to his declaration about his sexuality, Casey comes to his rescue, pretending to be boyfriends to prove Ethan’s gay. What’s the harm in helping a friend? Turns out quite a lot as neither realizes all the ways it will test their relationship.Fake boyfriends is one of my absolute favorite tropes, and this one works on so many levels. Amy Aislin takes it up a notch by adding deliciously angsty friends-to-lovers tension to the mix. She had me in Ethan’s corner from the very first page, waiting and hoping Casey get on board and work through his own feelings. Keeping Casey demonstrates masterful emotional depth and complexity; both Ethan and Casey face past grief, the stress and struggles of college life, as well as their complicated tangle of romantic feelings. The slow burn, angst and anticipation are deliciously done, something I’ve come to expect from Amy Aislin’s books.Speaking of her previous work, I want to give a shout out to Aislin’s clarity and inclusivity. Readers can find a wide range of characters representing unique sexual and gender identities in M/M romance, and her books are no exception. Her Stick Side series as well as Keeping Casey feature characters who identify as demisexual, but Aislin goes beyond merely mentioning it. She clearly defines what being demi means to the person on the page; rather than sweeping generalizations, she draws the reader into the emotional complexity of their sexual identity, its impact and influence in a way that’s clear and thought-provoking. I cannot say enough about how much I appreciate this as a reader.
